About the Institute

The Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology (IEA) was founded in 1987, under the name Center for Ethnological Research, as part of the Department of Ethnology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade. It is the most recent ethnological-anthropological institution to emerge in Serbia. When the Department of Ethnology changed its name to the Department of Ethnology and Anthropology, the Institute followed and it was re-named Center for Ethnological and Anthropological Research. The institute holds its current name since 2010. It became distinctive research unit of the Faculty in 1990. The Institute, formerly Center, has been headed by professors from the Department of Ethnology and Anthropology – Nikola Pavković, Branko Ćupurdija, Bojan Žikić, Miloš Milenković and Ivan Kovačević. Current head of the Institute is Professor Dragana Antonijević and the secretary of the Institute is Ljubica Milosavljević, Ph.D., Research Associate.
