About the Institute

The Institute of Sociology and Social Research was formed in 1972. The establishment of the Institute was the initiative of Chair of Sociology of Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade due to assuring requirements such as: the necessity of linking theoretical and empirical research, relating the same to the study plans and programs, recruiting and educating future prospects, as well as communicating and cooperating with other institutes and research institutions. The Institute’s first Director was Professor Zagorka Golubović.

As the Faculty of Philosophy’s research unit, the Institute of Sociology and Social Research (ISI FF) has been for over three decades engaged in researching and examining global characteristics and transformations within Serbian society. The results of the research have been published in numerous studies concerning various and complex fundamental and methodological matters in sociology.

Among all institutes that are involved with social research of some kind, the Institute of Sociology and Social Research of Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade (ISI FF), according to its research results and accomplishments, has always been open to collaboration with other institutes and institutions, and quite often was the initiator as well as the coordinator and guarantor of many macro-projects.

The Director of the Institute is Mirjana Bobić, Professor.
