Course objectives:

Course description: The spatial turn in social sciences is examined by reviewing the importance given to space in sociology in general and urban sociology in particular. The course is dedicated to Zimmel’s thoughts on metropolis, Sombart’s and Weber’s analysis of the role of city in developing modern capitalism, Lefebvre’s social production of space and right to the city, Castell’s work on information society and city, Foucalt’s idea of space and disciplinary power, Harvey’s work on neoliberalism and contempor
