Sociology

History

The founding of the Library of the Department of Sociology follows the establishment of the Sociology Group in 1959. The library found an immense support in Professor Bojan Milić who made a special contribution towards its development and further work. Since then, the library has been collecting literature on sociology and related disciplines as well. Today, the Sociology Department Library is the largest sociology library in the country.

Collections

Within its collection, the library has over 29,000 copies of various sociology publications. The majority of the publications are books as there are around 174,500 different titles, many of which, exactly 8,893 are original foreign publications and translated works. In addition to the original collection, the library includes two legacies as well – one of Professor Anđelka Milić and one of Professor Vesna Korać. There are also 267 domestic and foreign journal titles in the library collection, as well as 1,465 doctoral, master and graduation works.

Catalogues

Until October 2003, the search within the collections was offered via an authors' catalogue in written form and a catalogue of scientific disciplines when computerized publications cataloguing system was started. Today, the online system of Virtual Libraries of Serbia (COBISS) allows users to electronically search the engine containing all monographic publications published since 1994.
