Problems in translating Classical languages

Pre-requisites: Knowledge of Classical Greek and Latin.

Course objectives: The course aims to improve and deepen acquired knowledge and translation skills. Interactive approach at lectures should allow students to easily and fast introduce themselves to entirely unknown classical texts.

Course description: At lectures, Hellenic and Roman classics are analyzed on the basis of relevant comments and previous translations into Serbian and Western-European languages. It is of importance to enable students to sense the thought, understand meaning and, finally, to try to find the melody of a sentence. Primarily, the translation must be clear and accurate. The most successful paper-works can be, as a reward or acknowledgement, published in "Lucida intervalla", the scientific journal of Department of Classics.

Learning Outcomes: The purpose is to enable students to translate accurately and adequate, if not even creative, texts from Classical languages into Serbian.
