Course objectives: Introduction into theoretical aspects of professional development of teachers and to practical dimensions of their status and the role in adult education.

Course description: Theoretical part: Theories of professional development, comparison and analysis Initial and continuing teachers’ education – PRESET and INSET systems for teachers generally and for teachers in adult education in particular Characteristics of teacher’s role in adult education – dimensions and characteristics of role of teachers in adult education. Competences of teachers in adult education – study of research findings and standards of competences for teachers and teachers in adult education. Adult education teacher in the context of education policy – comparison of policy solutions, analysis of gaps and needs to improve perspectives of teachers in adult education through the policy improvements.Professionalization of adult education teacher –requirements and needs in the light of the modern approach to adult learning and in the specific country context(s). Practical segment: The status of adult education teacher and opportunities for its improvement – analysis of practice of adult teaching and needs to improve the status of adult education teacher. Articulating research questions – preparation for developing projects/essays. Developing adequate methodology in empirical studying of issues related.

Learning Outcomes: Specific features of professional development and role of teachers in adult education identified. Recognized value of standardization of their role. Improved teachers' competences of students.
