Course objectives: Acquisition of knowledge of the basics of epistemological research; training students for understanding the theoretical basics of adult educational research in the context of different epistemological-methodological orientations; for individual designing and realization of research.

Course description: Theoretical course: Research subject of methodology; Epistemological-methodological particularities of cognition in adult education; The nature and the possibilities of law determination in social sciences; Theory and research; Pluralism of research paradigms: hermeneutics, epistemological holism in educational research, dialectical approach; Positivism and critical theory; Quantitative and qualitative research; Particularities and ranges of particular types of research (action, evaluation, ethnographic and system-cultural research); Descriptive and causal research; New tendencies in development of social sciences methodology; Evaluation of research projects and research results. Practical course: Practice, Other types of teaching, Study-research work, Research project design; Construction of instruments; Selection and justification of samples; Plan preparation for data collection and processing; Research report writing and presentation of obtained results.

Learning Outcomes: Student should: know and understand the particularities of epistemological-methodological basics on which different types of research reside; know to design research project; to analyse and critically evaluate the results of research and write the research report.
