Pre-requisites: It is desirable, but not absolutely necessary, for students to some sort of background in world religions, especially those that are prevalent in our country and region of the world (Christianity, Judaism, Islam).

Course objectives: Becoming familiar with various theoretical approaches to religion, religious phenomena and basic narratives and rituals of major world religions. Through theoretical and practical work (workshops, visits to religious institutions etc) students will gain an understanding of the vibrancy of world religions in their contemporary context.

Course description: This course is intended to be introductory. The main goal of the course is for students to become familiar with the social history, practices and teachings of major world religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Asian religious). We will examine religion's role in understanding traditional but also contemporary cultures and societies, including causes of religious conflict and perspectives on inter-faith dialogue.

Learning Outcomes: Students should be able to exhibit sensitivity to religious differences both on a local and global level and will understand the role of religion in modern, present-day political conflicts in the world but also the contributions and efforts of religious communities in fostering dialogue and peace.
