Pre-requisites: The Basics of psychotherapy and counselling, Psychotherapeutic modalities. Knowledge from General psychopathology and Clinical psychology is useful.

Course objectives: Acquiring knowledge about the basic concepts of the cognitive-behavioral counselling model, mastering the skills of developing an optimal counselling relationship, assessing the client's problem in the form of a cognitive model of emotional disorder and using some of the basic interventions.

Course description: The course provides basic knowledge about the concepts, methods and skills of the cognitive-behavioral counselling model with emphasis on the rational-emotive behavior and cognitive therapy. Students will acquire knowledge necessary for: a. forming an optimal counselling relationship and a therapeutic alliance, b. assessment of client's dysfunctional patterns of thinking, feeling and behavior, c. determining the goal of the counselling, d. the use of various interventions (cognitive, emotive, behavioral), e. evaluation of the counselling process, f. understanding the key ethical and professional issues in counselling. In the practical part of the course, aforementioned skills are trained and integrated by working on overcoming some of the most common dysfunctional feelings and behaviors at a non-clinical level, including non-assertive behavior.

Learning Outcomes: Understanding the basic theoretical propositions of the cognitive-behavioral counselling model and mastering the assessment and intervention skills needed for optimal implementation of the basic therapeutic steps in the domain of a specific problem in the non-clinical population.
