Sociology of knowledge 1

Pre-requisites: Mastering of the content of introductory general sociological courses like Introduction to sociology or Theories and methods of society research. Knowledge of foreign languages and internet use is desirable

Course objectives: Introduces students to the basic processes and social conditions of cognition process and reproduction of knowledge from the perspective of different theoretical, methodological and practical standpoints in the electronically supported environment

Course description: Theoretical classes introduce students to basic concepts, theories and methods of analysis of social conditions of genesis and changes in cognitive content and function of human common sense, religious, philosophical, artistic, scientific and other beliefs and knowledge in the context of the genesis and the structural change of subject and object of cognition. Practical education envelops through participation in discussions on electronic forums, in compiling dictionaries. Through writing and debating research seminar papers on a selected topic, students acquire capacity to illuminate the basic concepts of cognition process and knowledge, truth, ideology, and the long-running dispute about the universality / relativity, objectivity / subjectivity, ideality / materiality of cognition and knowledge, primarily from the perspective of the classic representatives of the basic theoretical and methodological paradigms

Learning Outcomes: Gaining of critical insights and research tools for the analysis and virtual debate on problems of production, identification, accumulation, dissemination and uses of knowledge in social context of social power, interests and values
