Course objectives: Understanding the structure and the function of language in education and their influence on characteristics of education and students’ educational perspective. Familiarization with the conceptual trends of language education in our country and strategies for their development /changing.

Course description: Theoretical course: Language in society and formal education. Discourses and texts and participating in the culture. Property over language in the context of meaning construction. Notions about the nature of the language learning process. Bilingual language learning. Written language construction and school writing discourses. Conceptional orientations and educational politics in language teaching. European language portfolio. Programmes for stimulating the development of communication skills. Theory and practice of the child’s linguistic creativity stimulation. Literacy development through school literacy constructs. Story and storytelling – developmental contribution. Intertextuality and teaching literature in schools. Tendencies in shaping the mother tongue textbooks. Practical course: Practice of familiarization with the structure and the function of language in education, with the conceptual trends of language education, training for children’s literature analysis.

Learning Outcomes: Student understands the relation between the use of language in educational context and opportunities for the construction of meaning. He is familiar with the notions of the nature of the language learning process and designed relation between the content of language education and the development of students. He is capable of assessing the literature for children.
