Developmental Psychology

Pre-requisites: Passing the exam Introduction to Developmental Psychology.

Course objectives: Acquiring basic knowledge about specific domains of development, understanding basic assumptions of important theoretical-methodological approaches as well as understanding important issues within developmental psychology (e.g. nature and nurture, speech and thinking, learning and development, etc.).

Course description: Genetic basis of development, Constructivist (Piagetian) approach; Co-constructivist (Vygotskian) approach; Psychometric approach; Heredity and environment; Learning and development; Early speech and semantic development; Speech and thinking; The development of moral thinking; Socio-affective development; Socialization; The influence of culture on child development.

Learning Outcomes: Understanding development of specific domains, understanding basic assumptions and concepts of the key theories, understanding some of the important unresolved issues in the study of psychological development.
