Course objectives: Introducing students into the importance of computer data processing; introducing into the basic characteristics of data processing software and database forming; training for implementation of acquired knowledge in the practice.

Course description: Theoretical course: The area of data processing software implementation in education. The importance of computer data processing. The importance of databases in the field of education. Database forming criteria and its elements. Database browsing and linking criteria. MS Office Access, database software (basic possibilities). MS Office Excel, data processing software. Analysis and graphical presentation procedures in Excel. SPSS, data processing software. Procedures of analysis and graphical presentation of data in SPSS. Data processing in a long-scale educational researches. Databases in TIMSS research (WinW3S, WinDEM). Models and procedures of data analysis in long-scale research. Other data processing software. Practical course: Databases, their forming and operation (examples). Practical work in MS Office Excel and SPSS. Database characteristics in a long-scale educational research.

Learning Outcomes: Student: should be familiar with the basic possibilities of data processing software and database forming; is trained for implementing the acquired knowledge in the practice (data processing, database forming, graphical presentation).
