Course objectives: To familiarize students with the importance of information technologies in modern society; to acquaint students with the basic possibilities of information technology implementation in educational purposes; to develop awareness for the importance of informatical education.

Course description: Theoretical course: The importance of modern man’s information technologies. Society informatization phenomenon. Information technologies in the function of education. The possibilities of distant education. Childhood transformation through computers and the Internet. Computer as a toy and a learning and development medium. The possibilities of the use of the Internet in education. Educational and other influences through the Internet. Communication system and interaction on the Internet. The problem of knowledge availability on the Internet. The Internet and modern teaching. Teaching organization and distance learning. The use of the Internet resources in teaching (e-mail, chat, video-conferencing). Virtual classroom forming. Computer network and its educational importance. The role and the importance of modern informatical education. Areas of informatical literacy. Practical course: The use of information technologies. Distance education. Educational influence through the Internet. Virtual classroom. Interaction on the Internet.

Learning Outcomes: Student should: know the basic possibilities of modern information technologies, know the basic possibilities and limitations of the implementation of information technologies in educational purposes; have the awareness of the importance of informatical education
