Course objectives: Training for critical interpretation of Serbian pedagogical thought, for relating the pedagogical theory with practice in the past and the present and for realization of educational work in the field of national history of pedagogy.

Course description: Theoretical course: Enlightenment and the beginnings of pedagogical thought in Serbs. Development of elementary and secondary schools and higher education in Serbia in 19th and first half of 20th century. Conceptual and institutional development of pedagogy in Serbia. Pedagogical tendencies and their representatives in Serbian pedagogy: pre-Herbartianism pedagogy of S.D. Popovic, general pedagogy and didactic of V. Bakic, Herbart’s pedagogy of Stevan Okanovic, work/active school of S. Adzic, J. Miodragovic, pedagogical thought of V. Mladenovic, cultural pedagogy of M. Milosevic, experimental pedagogy of P. Radosavljevic, education by play and art of V. Rakic. Practical course: Practice. Image of school and education in Serbia in 19th and first half of 20th century in the reports of school supervisors. Legislative frame of Serbian schooling and curriculum at all levels of educational system. Development of Serbian pedagogical periodicals in 19th and first half of 20th century. Comparative analysis of educational concepts of Serbian pedagogists.

Learning Outcomes: Student – Individually critically analyses and interprets the works of Serbian pedagogists - Individually gathers and interprets the resources for the history of education and schooling in Serbia. – Solves the problems in the field of National History of Pedagogy.
