Course objectives: Acquisition of knowledge of the methods and techniques of research in education. Training students for understanding the meaning and the possibilities of their use in studying educational problems; for construction of instruments and their use in research; for research work.

Course description: Theoretical course: The concept and the characteristics of educational research methods. The particularities of measurement in education: types and levels. Variables and indicators in educational research. Population and sample. The possibilities of particular educational techniques implementation: content analysis, systematical observation, interviewing, survey, testing, scaling and sociometry. Characteristics and construction of basic types of instruments. Metrical characteristics of instruments. Parallel forms and instruments batteries. Selection of research methods, techniques and instruments. Methods of data collection. Organizing and processing data. Research results interpretation. Practical course: Construction of questionnaire, scale and (knowledge) test. Verification of instruments psychometric characteristics. Preparing the data for processing and designing the data processing plan. Review, analysis and research results interpretation.

Learning Outcomes: Student should: be familiar with the methods, techniques and instruments of research; know how to choose the adequate methods, techniques and instruments for research; to construct and use the instruments in research; be trained to participate as an associate in research.
