Teaching with Film

Pre-requisites:

Course objectives: To develop competence of teachers and education professionals to use film in teaching.

Course description: Theoretical instruction: Media culture. Media in education. Film. Documentary film. Various levels of film interpretation. Film in interactive teaching. Interactive teaching as a context for film use. Lesson planning and teaching with the use of documentary film: teaching objectives, lesson structure, methods and techniques, evaluation of teaching. Ways of dealing with controversial and delicate social issues as well as with the issues that arouse strong emotions. Students' film in teaching. Practical instruction: The analysis of lesson examples. The use of documentary film – lesson planning, teaching and evaluation.

Learning Outcomes: Students will able to: identify situations for film use that are conducive to the realisation of both short- and long-term teaching/learning objectives as well as to the wholesome development of learners; select a film suitable for educational purposes with regard to the content and objectives of the subject, learners’ needs and the social context.
