Course objectives: Acquiring additional knowledge about the corpus of sources for the history of late medieval Europe, their typology, and the methodological requirements they present to the researcher who uses them.

Course description: Lectures introduce students to the types of sources for the history of late medieval Europe, with primary focus on written sources, emphasizing those characteristics which present special requirements for their use in historical research. In addition, students are introduced to the major collections of published sources and the evolution of editing criteria for sources of various types. Practical classes present the various types of sources through representative examples, which are then subjected to various techniques of working with sources, both individually and through use of various types of sources to shed light on one topics of research. These tasks can be adapted to the subjects of the students' theses.

Learning Outcomes: Students gain a clear perception of the scope and content of corpus of sources for the history of late medieval Europe and acquire knowledge necessary for academic and critical use of that material in scientific research.
