Course objectives: The objective of this course is to introduce students to the nature and functions of social institutions in pharaonic Egypt.

Course description: This course is devoted to analyzing the ideological and social principles on which egyptian society was founded, on the one hand, and on the other hand – the changes that occurred in society and culture. Specific examples will be used (testaments to material culture and written testimonies) to examine interpretations of the various aspects of social structures in pharaonic Egypt (individuals, groups and society, gender relations, foreigners and Egyptians, visible and invisible categories of the population, material culture and social stratification).

Learning Outcomes: Knowledge of the nature and functions of social institutions in pharaonic Egypt.
