Course objectives: Gaining a deeper insight into the major historical issues and events in the period of the Nemanjic dynasty. Mastering knowledge and skills for working with required sources.

Course description: Examining the most relevant sources and archives with materials on the history of Serbia during the Nemanjic dynasty. Introduction to the most important and also the newest literature. Serbia upon the rise of Stefan Nemanja to the throne in 1166 until the death of King Uros in 1371. General overview of historic period. Working with various important types of sources. Through examining major events and people from this time period(which students are expected to already be familiar with) the course will have two main goals - gain knowledge and understanding of events and facts from this time period and, secondly, addressing lesser known, more difficult or arguable questions and topics, while keeping in mind the broad social and cultural developments and background of the time.

Learning Outcomes: Understanding of the major historical events, processes and issues in the history of Nemanjic Serbia. An introduction to methods in working with narrative and documented sources. Aspects of paper writing, historical essays and powerpoint presentations.
