Course objectives: This course provides an introduction to the major currents of institutional, social, economic and cultural developments in ancient Greece and Eastern civilizations and will teach students to independently work with relevant sources & literature.

Course description: Survey of the inner development of the Greek world starting from the Mycenaean period to the ending of the Theban hegemony. Survey of the development of ancient Eastern civilizations (territory that spans from present day Turkey to Egypt, from Syria, Lebanon and Israel to Iran and Afghanistan) starting with the beginning of the 3rd century to the middle of the 4th century A.D.

Learning Outcomes: Gaining knowledge about ancient Greece and ancient Eastern civilizations.
