Admission Requirements: An entrance condition for enrollment in a Bachelor’s study program is to have graduated full high school, approved entrance examination scores, and acceptance to study program. Rules for entrance examinations and admission are set in connection with the Faculty of Philosophy Statute.

Transfer Regulations: Rules for transferring are set in connection with the Faculty of Philosophy Statute. It is mandatory for a student to have the sufficient number of ECTS credits within the adequate study group allowing a student to transfer or take the differential exam.

Process of Studying: After accomplishing a Bachelor’s study program in History of Art, a student will be proficient in independently applying the gained knowledge while interpreting and analyzing numerous pieces of art as well as the artistic and architectural occurrences, events and trends. The Bachelor of History of Art will be acquired with knowledge to utilize it while working within museums and programs for national heritage protection, and to apply gained pedagogic and methodological expertise in performing professional activities at the educational institutions, such as elementary schools, middle schools and high schools.

Educational and Professional Goals: A Bachelor’s study program in History of Art is oriented towards acquiring knowledge and developing skills and proficiency necessary for a professional work of a Bachelor of History of Art within different cultural institutions, institutions for national heritage and tradition protection, elementary and high school educational institutions, in administration, media and public relations, as well towards continuing education and professional upgrading and perfection.

Course Selection / ECTS: The credit system at the Faculty of Philosophy conforms to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS credits. The study courses correspond to 2 – 10 ECTS. The instructions are conducted through: lectures, seminars, and mandatory laboratory work. It is the credit accumulation system and corresponding grades of credits are allocated to subjects that form a part of the study program.

Admission Requirements: An entrance condition for enrollment in a follow-up Master’s study program is the completion of study in a Bachelor’s study program (240 ECTS credits). Rules for entrance examinations and admission are set in connection with the Faculty of Philosophy Statute. A student applying for a Master’s study program with a Bachelor’s degree from a different study group will have to take the difference exam if necessary.

Process of Studying:

A graduate student with a Master degree in History of Art will be capable of performing the following activities:

• Will acquire methods of scientific research work
• Will be introduced to and familiar with the latest literature pertaining to History of Art and related disciplines, including literature in foreign languages
• Will acquire superior intellectual and rhetorical proficiency
• Will develop independent critical thinking in personal interpretations

Educational and Professional Goals: The main goal of a Master’s study program in History of Art is to perfect and further the proficiency a graduate student has acquired during the undergraduate studies, while focusing on particular areas of specialization: a) Historical, theoretical and visual understanding of selected artistic or architectural course or phenomenon in History of Art in a period from ancient to modern and contemporary times; b) Museums and national heritage protection programs; c) Methodology of history of Art as a science and humanistic discipline; d) To acquire a graduate student with expertise necessary to independently conduct research programs and interpret pieces of art, with extensive contextualization of particular disciplines, such as: Cultural History, Sociology, Antropology, Archaeology, Pedagogy, Classics, etc.

Each study course, either elective or compulsory, corresponds to 6 ECTS credits. The research study work in the second semester corresponds to 10 ECTS credits. Number of ECTS credits allocated: 180 ECTS credits

Qualification Awarded: Doctor of History of Art (Ph.D.)

Admission Requirements: An entrance conditions for enrollment in a follow-up Doctoral study program are the completion of study in a Master’s study program (300 ECTS credits), the average grade of 8.00 during Bachelor and Master’s study programs, or at least five published research studies in magazines of national and international recognition. The knowledge of at least one foreign language is mandatory as well. Rules for entrance examinations and admission are set in connection with the Faculty of Philosophy Statute. A student applying for a Doctoral study program with a Master’s degree from a different study group will have to take the differential exam if necessary.

Transfer Regulations: Rules for transferring are set in connection with the Faculty of Philosophy Statute. It is mandatory for a student to have the sufficient number of ECTS credits within the adequate study group allowing a student to transfer or take the differential exam.

Access to Further Studies: The doctoral degree is the highest level of Serbian education system.

Educational and Professional Goals:

The main goal of a Doctoral study program in History of Art is to perfect the previously acquired knowledge and skills in following areas:

• Historical, theoretical, thematic, challenging, conceptual and visual understanding of particular artistic course, individual artist or phenomena pertaining to History of Art and Architecture in a period from ancient to modern and contemporary times
• Understanding and critical evaluation of History of Art as a science, as well as practice of other related disciplines
• Theoretical and practical application of knowledge and expertise concerning work within museums and national heritage protection programs
• Methodology of History of Art as a science and humanistic discipline, with focus on contextual and interdisciplinary approach in studying particular topics, areas and contents of History of Art and Architecture
• Creative abilities and independency during performing intellectual and professional activities
• Research accountability, persistence and efficiency, inquisitiveness, intellectual flexibility, and professional and educational responsibilities at the highest level
• Organizing and conducting scientific research project independently
• Assisting in national and international scientific research projects
• Intellectual and professional expertise necessary for development, advancement and popularization of History of Art.

A graduate student with a Doctoral degree in history of Art will be qualified and competent to perform the following:

• To independently, theoretically and practically perform in the particular area of expertise, such as: History of Art, History of Architecture, Theory, Museums and National Heritage Protection Programs
• To apply cognitive, research and communicational skills, as well as the ability of autonomous intellectual and professional performance
• To conduct lectures at the institutions of higher educations
• To assist in conducting domestic and international scientific research projects
• To execute independently and artistically
• To respect principles of working ethics
• To communicate at the professional level while presenting results of scientific research projects at the conventions or publishing the same in scientific periodicals and magazines; to complete original scientific research projects, monographs or independent interpretations of a pieces of art
• To provide towards advancing History of Art as a science
• To execute comprehensive knowledge and meticulous understanding of History of Art a scientific discipline
• To be capable of solving existing problems utilizing scientific methods and techniques
• To execute interdisciplinary knowledge
• To follow latest worldwide trends and tendencies in History of Art
• To apply acquired knowledge and skills in particular area of expertise pertaining to History of Art
• To utilize contemporary technologies while implementing and sharing acquired knowledge in History of Art and related disciplines.

Course Selection / ECTS: The credit system at the Faculty of Philosophy conforms to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS credits. Each elective and compulsory study course corresponds to 10 ECTS credits, and the thesis and project topic selections correspond to 15 ECTS credits each. The research study work corresponds to 45 ECTS credits. It is the credit accumulation system and corresponding grades of credits are allocated to subjects that form a part of the study program.
