Pre-requisites: Prerequisite for attending the course is knowledge of the Physiology of the nervous system.
Course objectives: Acquisition of basic knowledge about the effects of the nervous and endocrine systems on basic life functions, behavior and higher mental processes.
Course description: The main subject and approaches in biological psychology; Biological basis of movement and voluntary activities; Biological regulation of homeostasis: body temperature, thirst and nutrition; Biological rhythms, waking and sleep; Hormones and behavior; Sexual and reproductive behavior; Biological basis of emotional behavior; Biological basis of mental disorders; Psychoactive substances and behavior– types of psychopharmacs and their therapeutic application; Biological basis of learning, memory and thinking; Biological basis of language abilities.
Learning Outcomes: Knowledge about the biological foundations and physiological mechanisms mediating different forms of behavior, as well as knowledge of the physiological basis of behavioral disorders.
