Archaeology of Ancient Egypt: Pre Dynastic and Early Dynastic periods

Pre-requisites: None. Midterm test after the 7th week as well as the final test.

Course objectives: To acquire basic knowledge regarding pre- and proto dynastic cultures of Ancient Egypt, starting from the Epipaleolithic up until the end of the Second Dynasty. Also, the goal of this course is to development of critical data reviewing skills in students.

Course description: Geographical and paleoecological conditions in the Nile delta; eastern and western desert. Terminal Paleolithic, process of neolithization, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, the relation between Upper and Lower Nile cultures, the cross over from Pre Dynastic to Dynastic period, First and the Second Dynasties.
