Pre-requisites: Interest in politics and familiarity with social theory.

Course objectives: For doctoral candidates to have mastered theoretical approaches on authoritarianism and democracy; possess a critical approach towards the relationship between transnational and local elite; familiarity with and a critical attitude toward basic frameworks and discourses as well as theories about the break up of Yugoslavia.

Course description: The main theoretical approaches in authoritarianism and democracy; theories on the break up of Yugoslavia, transnational and local elite; political parties in Serbia and civil society.

Learning Outcomes: Doctoral candidates will be confident in their knowledge of various theories, be able to critique and describe valuable socially integrated traits and contributions of each.
