Pre-requisites: To successfully attend this course students need to have a completed bachelor's degree at a university in the social sciences. Students from other universities can take a differential exam.

Course objectives: The objective of this course is to introduce students to the theoretical and empirical dimensions of a particular concept in sociological. Debate and dialogue on various theoretical standpoints will help students develop the ability to conceptually and empirically conduct analysis.

Course description: During the course students will be introduced to the newest theories on class, by including the views of authors that both affirm and critique the sociological validity of this concept. We will analyze research on class structures in Serbia during the last twenty years:various aspects of and operationalization of the concept, and the following dimensions of class: lifestyle, material status, reproduction, values. We will use primary sources for research and also use research available from other countries(especially neighbouring).

Learning Outcomes: Upon completing this course, students will be capable of analyzing issues in social structures and stratification. Along with that, students will be able to critically evaluate theoretical materials and collect and work with empirical evidence.
