Status: optional
Recommended Year of Study: 1
Recommended Semester: 1
ECTS Credits Allocated: 6.00
Pre-requisites: Counselling skills, General and special psychopathology

Course objectives: Training a student to conceptualize a case and to use basic therapeutic procedures in dealing with various psychological problems and disorders with an emphasis on anxiety and depression disorders.

Course description: The course provides a comprehensive framework for students to familiarize themselves with theory, principles and the use of rational-emotive behavior therapy (REBT) in overcoming a wide variety of psychological problems. Students will: 1. acquire knowledge of basic assumptions of case conceptualization; 2. improve the ability to make a therapeutic plan, 3. develop sensitivity concerning problems in therapeutic relationship; 4. develop knowledge of different cognitive, emotive, imaginative and behavioral interventions. Since REBT has two forms - the elegant and inelegant - while inelegant is synonymous with cognitive-behavioral therapy in general, the proppositions of cognitive therapy which in significant ways complements REBT's views will be presented. In the practical part of the course students will train to formulate cognitive models of various emotional disorders and basic elements of case conceptualization, and they will develop knowledge about the principles, procedures and techniques of REBT.

Learning Outcomes: Students will acquire knowledge of the basic principles, procedures and techniques of rational-emotive behavior therapy and cognitive therapy in dealing with various psychological problems and disorders.
