Pre-requisites: The Basics of psychotherapy and counselling. Knowledge from Psychology of personality, Individual differences, Clinical psychology, General psychopathology is useful.

Course objectives: Learning basic propositions of different psychotherapeutic approaches; crystallization of student's own therapeutic preferences; developing motivation to practice psychotherapy; developing critical thinking about this area.

Course description: The course provides insights to basic psychotherapy paradigms; postmodern approaches to psychotherapy are also included. Therapies are analyzed from several perspectives that include: a. key theoretical concepts; b. therapeutic relationship; c. therapeutic techniques; d. theory of therapeutic change; e. indications and contraindications; f. contributions and limitations; g. process and outcome evaluation. Within the psychodynamic paradigm, we will analyze classical and post-classical psychoanalytic therapy and analytical therapy; within the cognitive behavioral paradigm, we will analyze behavior therapy, rational-emotional behavior therapy and cognitive therapy; within the humanist-existentialist paradigm, we will analyze client-centered therapy, gestalt therapy and transactional analysis, and within the family therapy, emphasis will be placed on the structural approach, the strategic approach and the model of multi-generational family systems.

Learning Outcomes: Knowledge of psychotherapeutic modalities that allows the student to choose an approach in which he/she will further improve and to direct persons in need for help in choosing a psychotherapeutic approach.
