Pre-requisites: Prerequisite fort attending the course is knowledge of general psychology, methodology of psychological research and statistics. In addition, knowledge in psychometrics and personality psychology is useful.

Course objectives: Socialization is one of fundamental scientific disciplines that promotes easier acquisition and a more comprehensive interpretation of knowledge from other areas. Socialization is designed to aid successful mastering of applied psychological disciplines.

Course description: 1. The processes of socialization: the concept of socialization – views and problems. Social learning - types and forms 2. Agents and sources of socialization: sources of socialization - culture and social structure. Agents of socialization: Family. School. Peer group. The means of mass communication. Adult socialization.3. Effects (outcomes) of socialization: a. Socialization of basic mental functions. b. Socialization and motivation: understanding the motives and the types of motives. Socialization of biological needs. Social motives. c. Social attitudes and values: The concepts of attitude and value. The structure of attitudes and values. Social attitudes formation and change. Effects and functions of attitudes. Attitude persistence and resistance to change. Prejudice and national attitudes.

Learning Outcomes: Acquiring basic concepts, ability to critically read and understand literature, ability to plan, design and apply questionnaires and attitude scales, application of knowledge to other areas and practical work.
