Pre-requisites: Undergraduate degree in psychology.

Course objectives: Introducing students to the basic concepts, leading theories and seminal research in the field of giftedness. Providing insight into best practices and available resources for the identification and education of gifted children, and sensitizing students to the specific educational and counseling needs of the gifted.

Course description: A. Conceptions and phenomenon of giftedness: 1. Traditional and contemporary conceptions of giftedness 2. Research on giftedness: current status and methodological issues 3. Biological and environmental determinants, developmental trajectories and outcomes of giftedness 4. Socio-emotional development and personality of the gifted 5. Domain-specificity and differences among gifted children. B. Practical issues in the psychology of giftedness: 1. Identifying giftedness 2. Schooling and education of the gifted 3. Counseling gifted children and their parents.

Learning Outcomes: Understanding various conceptions of giftedness and their practical implications. Gaining basic competencies in identifying and providing special educational/counseling services for gifted students.
