Pre-requisites: Modalities of psychotherapy with practicums: Psychoanalysis.

Course objectives: Improving the ability of the conceptualization of the case and the psychodynamic understanding of the comprehensive set of psychopathological category (defined by DSM-IV), the development of critical thinking about topics relevant to this area.

Course description: The course provides a comprehensive conceptual framework for understanding the current trends in the Psychodynamic approach to the evaluation and treatment. Basic Topics: a. Psychodynamic assessment and treatment approaches (individual, group, family / marital therapy) b. psychodynamic approaches to disorders on Axis I and within the DSM-IV classification (schizophrenia, affective disorders, anxiety disorders, dissociative disorders, paraphilias and sexual dysfunction, substance abuse and eating disorders, dementia), c. psychodynamic approaches to disorders on Axis II within the DSM-IV classification (personality disorders: paranoid, schizoid, shizotypal, borderline, narcissistic, histrionic, antisocial, obsessive-compulsive, avoidant, dependent).

Learning Outcomes: The acquisition of fundamental knowledge, improving of skills of assessment and psychodynamic conceptualization of the case along the complete spectrum of psychopathological categories and the ability to choose appropriate treatment modalities within the psychodynamic perspective.
