Course objectives: Acquiring basic knowledge about the family as a unique and important group for growth and development of the individual. Introduction to various theoretical models and methods of family evaluation, and to demands of an interdisciplinary approach to practice and research.

Course description: Theoretical instruction: 1. basic definitions, the definition of family as a social group as well as in relation to its essential characteristics; 2. different approaches to defining family health and dysfunction; 3. family psychology as a developing discipline, theoretical models of family; 4. parenting and its basic characteristics; 4. families under stress or in crisis; 5. family, health and disease; 6. families with special difficulties - family of a child with developmental difficulties; 8. alternative families and parenting for children without parental care; 7. new family modalities and the changed family cycle; 8. marriage and family assessment; 9. specific characteristics of family research. Practical instruction: practical classes, other forms of instruction, research work, individual review and presentation of a topic from a chosen area with the assistance of the teacher in selecting literature.

Learning Outcomes: Developing a framework for better understanding and applying knowledge from developmental psychology, child psychopathology, clinical assessment to family issues.
