Course objectives: Deepening and expanding knowledge of the history of ethics for the PhD students who are focused on the study of ethics and who will write doctoral thesis in the field of ethics.

Course description: The emergence of ethics in the 5th century BC, the distinction physis-nomos, sophistic movement, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Stoic and Epicurean ethics, the origins of Christianity and its philosophical connection with ancient roots (Augustine, Aquinas, etc.), Hume's practical philosophy, philosophical shift in Kant and Kant's moral philosophy, further development of ethics after Kant, the emergence of utilitaranism – Bentham and Mill, further development of utilitarianism (Sidgwick), further development of deontic ethics (D. Ross), the emergence of metaethics, restoration of virtue ethics and aristotelianism, emergence of new ethical directions ( feminist ethics, environmental aproach), the emergence and development of applied ethics, the basic structure of applied ethics.

Learning Outcomes: Expanding the knowledge of a wide range of relevant facts from the history of ethics, either as a basis for independent work in this area or as a means to illustrate ethical research in other areas.
