Pre-requisites: Student should be previously introduced to the key tendencies in contemporary philosophy.

Course objectives: Introduction to key intentions of these directions in contemporary philosophy, with their inspiration in structural linguistics, their importance for orientation in the discussions on modernism and postmodernism.

Course description: Incentives from structural linguistics and semiology; idea of sign structure and its relation to genetic and historical research; idea of differentiality, critique of essentialism, criticism of traditional conception of self-reflexive and self-identical subject; genealogical and deconstructivistic critique of the ruling forms of rationality and their significance for postmodernistic critiques of mind; criticism of the ruling economy of sign; the idea of simulation and its importance for critical analysis of contemporary mass-media and information culture.

Learning Outcomes: Mastering the methods of structural analysis, and learning about the capabilities of their application in different theoretical contexts (philosophy, anthropology, psychoanalysis, critique of ideology
