Course objectives: Training the students in the critical and careful reading of the Metaphysics and in the understanding of the philosophical problems and arguments connected with Aristotle’s key concept of Substance. Both student questions and class discussions are encouraged.

Course description: This course is the critical interpretation of the various aspects of Substance (ousia), i.e. most fundamental concept of Aristotle’s “first philosophy”. Special attention is given to the careful and critical reading the central books of his Metaphysics.

Learning Outcomes: Training the students in the critical and careful reading of the Metaphysics and in the understanding of the philosophical problems and arguments connected with Aristotle’s key concept of Substance. Both student questions and class discussions are encouraged.
