Pre-requisites: Finished course Political philosophy or some other course with similar content.

Course objectives: Students will be introduced to issues and topics of contemporary politics from philosophical point of view.

Course description: This is a one-semester course and consists of 15 weeks of lectures and recitation sessions (seminars). We'll deal with the notion of nation-state sovereignty and the limits of that sovereignty (the collapse of "westphalian" concept of sovereignty; the concept of usurpation of political authority – secession, revolution, emigration and civil disobidience; the problem of "humanitarian interventions", etc.). In addition, we shall consider the question of understanding the relations of nationalism and cosmopolitanism. Also, the phenomenon of globalization and the concept of multiculturalism will be discussed. During the last few weeks of lectures, the basic concepts of the theory of international relations will be introduced and some issues related to the problems of international justice will be discussed.
