Course objectives: Students will get acquainted with pre-critical and critical philosophy of Kant. The course is designed for students who wish to improve knowledge of Kant's thought acquired during the mandatory course History of philosophy IIIa.

Course description: The course provides an overview Kant's pre-critical and critical philosophy, with special attention paid to Kant's texts that were not included in the literature of the course History of philosophy IIIa. The course begins with an analysis of Kant's early cosmology, cosmogony, theology and animism, then the course focuses on their ontological, epistemological and psychological assumptions. After that, the course deals with transitional steps that took Kant to critical philosophy and the character of this turn is considered as well. In the third part, Kant's positive doctrines from critical period are presented: his epistemology, philosophy of physics, freedom, religion, law and history. In the last part, Kant's critical teachings are analyzed – his critique of metaphysics, church, hereditary aristocracy and German culture of his time.

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, students will be able to read Kant's texts and to deal with all important concepts, attitudes and arguments of his philosophy.
