Course objectives: Familiarization with classical models and contemporary systems of preschool education; understanding the social-historical and scientific resources of institutionalization of early education; understanding the relation between the programme as a model and as an educational practice.

Course description: Child and childhood comprehension as starting point for educational conceptions and educational practice for small children. Early ideas about education for children and historical models of preschool education (R. Owen, F. Froebel’s system, M. Montessori); Open system of education; The relation between the programme as a model and as an educational practice; Structural analysis of a model of programme; Modern systems and programmes of preschool education in different countries and in Serbia: Programme of Reggio Emilia, programmes for early compensatory education; systems and programmes of education in early childhood. Practical course: Review of systems/programmes of preschool education from different countries – by student’s choice; conducting pilot research with the reports; analysis of one programme.

Learning Outcomes: Students understand the childhood phenomenon; they are familiar with the different systems and programmes of preschool education and understand their starting points; they understand the difference between the programme as a model and the real programme; they can structurally analyse the programme.
