Course objectives: Understanding the nature of play and its functions; Familiarization with the types of child’s plays and the ways of child’s play cultivation and creativity stimulation; Training for play monitoring, understanding and analysing the child’s creativity and the assessment of the quality of toys.

Course description: Characteristics of the play – phenotypic and structural features; ontogenesis and phylogenesis of the play, play and cultures in which it appears, classical and modern play theories, classification of the play; play and emotions, play and identity, play and cognitive functions, play and learning, play and metaphor, play and creativity; Children’s linguistic play; play as a creativity prototype; general conditions for play and creativity stimulation; play cultivation using the art media; play cultivation using the scientific media; types of child creativity and particularities of stimulation; the roles of educators in programmes oriented to child and play; child’s linguistic creativity as a process; experiences from the theory and practice; the relation between play, imagination and story in child’s linguistic creativity; the role of toys in the life of child; the history of toys’ origin in modern society; criteria for the assessment of the quality of toys; classification of plays and toys; development trends of plays and toys. Practical course: field research (play and creativity in kindergarten; analysis of toy quality)

Learning Outcomes: Students understand the importance and functions of child’s play, they can differentiate the types of play; develop programmes for play cultivation and creativity stimulation.
