Course objectives: Acquisition of knowledge of logical-epistemological basics, characteristics, types and possibilities of research in the field of education and training students for individual design and realization of research in this field.

Course description: Theoretical course: The subject of the study of methodology. Epistemological-methodological particularities of understanding in education. Characteristics and types of educational facts. The nature and the possibilities of establishing laws in social sciences and education. Pluralism of research paradigms in education: hermeneutics, epistemological holism in educational research, dialectical approach. Positivism in education. Critical theory. Quantitative and qualitative research in education. Particularities and ranges of particular types of research (action, evaluative, ethnographic, systematic-structural research). Descriptive and causal research in education. New tendencies in development of methodology of social sciences and educational methodology. Assessment of research projects and research results. Practical course: Research project design. Constructions of instruments. Sample selection and justification. Data collecting and data processing plan design. Research report writing and presentation of obtained results.

Learning Outcomes: Knowing and understanding the particularities of epistemological-methodological basics of different types of research; capacity for critical analysis of research results, as well as for design and individual research of problems in the field of education.
