Course objectives: Training students for understanding and critical estimation of different theoretical orientations in explaining the theory and the practice of family education, and for competent research work in this field.

Course description: The basic characteristics of family education in different educational conceptions. Family education in theories of socialization. Behavioural-genetic research of family education. Educational “climate“ as an educational factor. Two-way character of educational influences in the family. Tasks, contents and methods of family education. The concept and the dimensions of parenthood. The assumptions of successful parenthood. Parental attitudes, knowledge and beliefs about education. Educational styles in the family and their educational results. Integrative learning about parenthood in the family. Mechanisms of intergeneration transfer of family education dimensions. Methodological approaches in the research of family education. Techniques and instruments of family education research.

Learning Outcomes: Having thorough knowledge about the basic characteristics of family education theory and practice; the capacity for critical analysis of different family education theories; competent use of the appropriate research techniques in this field.
