Relict Languages of Southern Europe and Middle East

Pre-requisites: Passed exams in Historical grammar of Greek language I and Historical grammar of Latin language I on grad. studies.

Course objectives: Acquainting with methodological problems in dealing with language in fragments, with Paleobalkanic relics and related languages of Middle East, with their ethnolinguistics and cultural-historical contexts, with problem of substratum on Balkan.

Course description: Ethnic geography of Ancient Balkan and Middle East, history of the tribes in pre Roman and Roman conquests, types of genuine facts and its idioms, methodological approaches to their study, problems of their affiliation in circle of Indo-European languages, methodology of identification and interpretation of onomastic and appellate substratum in modern Balkan languages.

Learning Outcomes: Enabling for scientific work in field of Paleobalkanistic.
