History

The existing Library of the Classics Department was established in 1897, when the Seminar for Classical Greek and Latin was first initiated. Books from a number of related scientific disciplines such as history, archaeology and art history were collected together with those pertaining to classical philology.

Collections

The wealth of the library adds up to approximately 35,241 books, many of which very valuable and rare as they trace all the way back to the XVI century. In addition, the library collection includes around 2,037 bound volumes of journals as well as the legacy of 871 books of Professor Miloš N. Đurić.

Catalogues

Until January 2004, the search within the collections was possible only via an alphabetical authors' catalogue when computerized publications cataloguing system was started. Today, the online system of Virtual Libraries of Serbia (COBISS) allows users to electronically search the engine containing all monographic publications published since 2000.

Location / Operating Hours

The reading room holding 15 seats is open Monday through Friday 8 A.M – 8 P.M. Both the Classics Department and the Library are located on the second floor of the west wing of Kapetan Mišino Zdanje Building.
