Course objectives: Familiarizing with prime processes and events in contemporary social history of USA or Asia. Depending on interest of students and topics of master papers emphasis will be put on one or the other continent.

Course description: The course deals with social history of USA or Asia in 20th century (depending on master paper topics). This is the time of biggest social changes, when changes in industry accelerate social processes. WWI brought big changes in social sphere. Economic crisis additionally changed American and Asian society. New challenges came with WWII and the Cold War. All those changes resulted in deepened differences between developed and undeveloped, specially noticeable on the example of USA and Asia. Ex-cathedra lecturing is combined with discussions and case analyses. Changes are envisaged according to students affinities, i.e. choice of graduation paper topics.

Learning Outcomes: Enabling students to realize links between long-term process and political circumstances in the past.
