Comparative Diplomatics 2

Pre-requisites: passed exams in two old languages (Greek/Latin/Old Slavonic) and in Auxiliary Sciences of History

Course objectives: Mastering the techniques of document edition as the third level in acquiring techniques necessary for practical work on medieval documentary and written sources in general.

Course description: After a recapitulation of the demands placed by contemporary diplomatics on editions of sources, concrete examples are used to demonstrate the procedure of diplomatic analysis of medieval material by applying the full range of relevant auxiliary sciences of history (diplomatics, paleography, chronology, sigillography, etc), as well as all other tools of source criticism.

Learning Outcomes: Acquiring the methodological and technical knowledge concerning critical edition of medieval documentary sources within the framework of large textual edition projects.
