Urbanisation and administration in the Roman Empire

Pre-requisites: No prerequisites

Course objectives: Gaining basic knowledge and facts on the process or urbanisation in the Roman Empire and on its administrative system.

Course description: Based on relevant literary, epigraphic and numismatic sources, students will obtain basic knowledge on the process of urbanisation in the Roman Empire (categories of settlements and towns in Italy and the provinces, establishment of colonies and municipia, change of legal status, population structure etc.) and on the administrative system of the Roman Empire (magistracies, provinces, administrative reforms etc.).

Learning Outcomes: Gaining basic knowledge and facts on the process or urbanisation in the Roman Empire and on its administrative system.
