Course objectives: Course objectives: For students to obtain relevant knowledge about the importance of the roman army in the process of romanization of its provinces on the Danube river coast.

Course description: Students will be introduced to the role and meaning of the roman army in the process of romanizing local populations in danubian provinces (Noricum, Pannonia, Dalmatia, Moesia, Dacia) by looking at relevant epigraphical sources. A special focus will be put on the question of marriages with soldiers, ancestry and legal status of women, and the legal status of children.

Learning Outcomes: Students will have gained knowledge on the subject of the role of the roman army in the romanization of danubian provinces.
