Pre-requisites: Prerequisites are prescribed by the Statute of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade.

Course objectives: Introducing candidates to various forms of theoretical and practical conception and creation of sacred and profane architecture and its individual components, in the period from Ancient to Postmodern Art.

Course description: Theoretical segment of teaching involves a historical and phenomenological analysis of all aspects of architecture at a level appropriate for doctoral studies. The emphasis is on presentation, interpretation and evaluation of its fundamental elements, trends, continuity and changes that are taking place in its creation and comprehension in the period from Late Antiquity to Deconstructionism. Practical part of teaching in its interactive form is focused on perceiving characteristic contemporary modes of receiving visual features of architecture, its theoretical and ideological superstructure, attitude towards religion and political systems. Axis of the content is an analysis of historical sources dedicated to architecture, which are considered both in relation to accomplished architectural works, as well as with regard to theoretical positions and practices in other forms of artistic activity in a specific period.

Learning Outcomes: Candidates are qualified for independent research of specialistic issues in certain areas of the history of architecture.
