Pre-requisites: The student is obligated to attend the lectures in accordance with the rules of the Faculty of Philosophy Statute.

Course objectives: The goal of the course is to acquire students with basic knowledge about fundamental elements of architecture, sculpture and painting, their central laws, elements of artistic expressing, techniques, motifs, and themes, as well as about the historical development of art as a science and art critique.

Course description: The program of the course is divided into several sections, depending on the subject matter. The first section of the course introduces the theoretical fundamentals of architecture, the elements of the architectural laws, the elements of shaping and constructing, and constructional materials. The second section of the course is oriented towards defining terms from sculpture and classification within, materials and techniques of sculpting, as well as the elements of artistic expressing in sculpting. One section of the course is also dedicated to drawing and painting – main general terms, the drawing and painting materials and techniques, various motifs and themes. The largest section of the course is oriented towards studying the historical development of History of Art as a science from ancient times to present. This section also includes the general review of historical development of art and artistic criticism in Serbia from the second half of XVIII century to present times.

Learning Outcomes: The course is designed to enable the students to master the fundamental terms concerning painting, sculpture and graphical techniques, while concurrently introducing the historiography of these arts.
