Pre-requisites: Students enrolled in the second year of Art History undergraduate studies attend the course „The concepts of Art and Visual Culture of the Modern Period“ and take the exam during the fourth semester.

Course objectives: Objectives of the course „The concepts of Art and Visual Culture of the Modern Period“ are to introduce students to the interpretation of concepts of Visual Culture of the modern period.

Course description: The course „The concepts of Art and Visual Culture of the Modern Period“ includes study of the concepts of Visual Culture of the modern period. Coursework involves analysis of the historical meanings, creation and interpretation of the conceptual frameworks of artistic creativity of the European Visual Culture from the Renaissance to the end of "the long nineteenth century". Study of the concepts advances understanding of different theoretical aspects and many functions of the modern period art practice in the European and Serbian Visual Culture of the modern period. Within the course, students learn about the different groups of concepts. Concepts that refer to the most important characteristics of artistic and cultural phenomena and styles - Renaissance, Mannerism, Baroque, Academism, Realism, Symbolism - are covered¬. Also, concepts related to the content of art theories and features of Visual Culture are studied, as well as the basic functions of the modern period Visual Culture.

Learning Outcomes: Learning outcomes of the course „The concepts of Art and Visual Culture of the Modern Period“ are to master the concepts of Visual Culture of the modern period in order to use them in doing the work of an art historian.
